Ok while there has always been a talk of Ajay Devgn‘s forthcoming film Son of Sardar being a remake of S.S.Rajamouli‘s refreshing Telugu film Maryada Ramanna, the trailer confirms that clearly. Directed by Ashwani Dhir who’s earlier made films like One Two Three and Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge, Son Of Sardar is produced by Ajay Devgn,N.R.Pachisia and Pravin Talreja. Maryada Ramanna was inspired by the 1923 Hollywood film, Our Hospitality. But Maryada Ramanna was well adapted keeping the background of factionalism in Rayalseema region in mind. The film speaks about a simpleton ( Sunil ) who comes from Hyderabad to his native village to sell of his inheritance and on the way he meets the heroine ( Saloni Aswani ). Unfortunately she happens to be the daughter of the village chieftain who’s brother was killed by the hero’s father. Now the hero is in the heroine’s house when what makes it interesting is when the hero realizes that the girl’s family has a tradition of not spilling blood within the house. Thus begins a cat and mouse game.
While Maryada Ramanna got the milieu right, another factor which went in its favor was the casting of Sunil as the protagonist. Sunil was more popular as a comedian and he fitted the role of the simpleton to the T. But over here in Son Of Sardar things look the usual exaggerated fashion as seen in a lot of Bollywood remakes from the South these days. Ajay Devgn replaces Sunil and Sonakshi Sinha steps in place of Saloni. Sanjay Dutt and Juhi Chawla also play prominent characters in the film. Aseem Bajaj is the DOP and music is by Sajid-Wajid and Himesh Reshammiya. The film is slated for a Diwali release ( 13 November as of now ).

The knowledge that Ajay Devgan is multiple time National Film Award winner is producer and lead actor of this film makes me weep. Its high time that we bring military approach like court marshal in National Awards.
The knowledge that both the movies he won national awards for, bombed at the box office, makes me support him completely in choice of movies at as a producer and actor. Its a film INDUSTRY. And any industry needs a continuous demand for its products to survive. A society gets the film it deserves.
