Dr.Biju who has made films like Saira, Raman and Veettilekulla Vazhi is now back with his latest film, Akashathinte Niram ( Colour of Sky ). Veettilekulla Vazhi had a successful run in the festival circuit and now Akashathinte Niram seems to be following suit. The film has been selected in competition for the 15th Shanghai International Film Festival ( 16-24 June ) for the presitigious Golden Goblet Award. Apparently this is the 1st Malayalam movie to be competing for the same. The film has an impressive star cast comprising of Indrajith, Nedumudi Venu, Prithviraj, Amala Paul, Master Govardhan etc.
Plot- A 60-year-old man ( Nedumudi Venu ) lives on an isolated island. He visits the nearby harbour in a motor boat once a month to sell handicrafts. A young burglar ( Indrajith ) keeps tabs on him and one day jumps onto the motor boat and demands money. The old man remains calm and takes the motor boat towards his island where the young man remains trapped. He meets the people who live with the old man, a 7-year-old boy ( Master Govardhan ), a 20-year-old deaf and dumb lady ( Amala Paul ) and a middle-aged man who stammers ( Prithviraj ). The intruder confronts rare life situations for the first time and his concepts about life changes as he understands how nature blends with life. Akashathinte Niram is the ‘colour’ of life, of the wind, of the sea of nature and many more such.
The film has music byIssac Thomas Kottukkapally and M.J.Radhakrishnan is the DOP. Akashathinte Niram is likely for a theatrical release in July 2012 after the premiere at the Shanghai International Film Festival. Here’s a look at the interesting trailer of the film -
