If 2011 wasn’t all that great a year for Marathi Cinema then 2012 is looking promising indeed. Close on the heels of films like Shala, Baboo Band Baaja and Masala here comes another interesting prospect for the year, Pune-52. Written and directed by Nikhil Mahajan who makes his debut with this film, Pune 52 is produced by Abhay Gadgil, Shrirang Godbole, Umesh Kulkarni and Girish Kulkarni ( the team that has made wonderful films like Valu, Vihir, Deool and Harishchandrachi Factory ). A noir -thriller, Pune 52 talks about a private detective living in Pune circa 1992, whose life undergoes a dramatic change when he takes up a case that is both dangerously complex and deeply personal.
Starring Girish Kulkarni, Sonali Kulkarni and Sai Tamhankar, the film is slated for a release in end of 2012. Jeremy Reagan is the DOP and Abhijeet Deshpande the editor. The songs are composed by Atif Afzal and BGM by Hyun Jung Shim ( of Oldboy fame )Till then do check out the interesting trailer of the film-
niceeee… thankfully, they have subtitles even in the trailer… i esply like the noir style in which they shot the dream.. and the sharp contrast of colors in reality…
The trailer’s good but i would have loved a fresh face instead of Girish Kulkarni. Glad they have released the trailer with subtitles. Hope that becomes the norm. No wonder it is generating good buzz.
I dont know why everyone is making such a hue and cry about this trailer….It’s a very mediocre trailer and did not captivate me one bit…
A sureshot case of Internet hype….
Well, you see Marathi Cinema is ‘in’ these days at least in Twitter circles.
Trailer doesn’t reveal much about the storyline. Hope the
film turns out to be good.

Girish Kulkarni.
