Music composer duo Ajay-Atul have been rocking Marathi Cinema in the recent past with hits like Aga Bai Arrecha,Jatra, Jogwa, Natarang etc and have recently made a transition to Hindi Cinema as well. The year 2011 has seen them churning out Hindi compositions in films like Singham and My Friend Pinto and now in 2012 they have Agneepath and Bol Bachchan to look forward to. Agneepath which is due for release on 26th January, 2012 has been in the news right from the time the project was launched. Adding to all the frenzy now is the item number picturised on Katrina Kaif - “Chikni Chameli” which has finally now been unveiled.
Check out the video of Chikni Chameli -
Now that the song has been brought under public eye, its very clear that the song is nothing but the Hindi version of the Marathi hit number “Kombadi Palali” from the film Jatra incidentally composed by Ajay-Atul themselves. Jatra was a comedy entertainer starring the talented Bharat Jadhav ( in a double role ) and this song was one of the highlights of the film. Those who haven’t seen the song and those who would love to revisit the song can check out the video-
Kombadi Palali sung by Vaishali Samant and Anand Shinde is a a fun song all right with some interesting choreography where Bharat Jadhav surprisingly displays a lot of flexibility. And in Chikni Chameli ( sung by Shreya Ghoshal ) Katrina seems to have outdone herself with her latkas & jhatkas
. So what do you think is the better of the 2 numbers? A slightly more rustic and simple Kombadi Palali or a the high octane Chikni Chameli?

Chikni Chameli.. the songs being the same.. it’s Katrina who absolutely outdoes every competition.. she is amazing in the song..
Ah!now that was fast-Souvik
Katrina is doing what Shakti Kapoor did in its original version, when Vijay Chauhan lands in Mauritius…..
By comparision this seems to be a bright spot with rest of the cast.
Ajay Atul had even composed music for Gayab 2.The Original is much much better, even the lyrics of the Marathi is more raunchy but classier, and love the Kedar’s Influence of South films in the song. The hindi one is so bad
Yes I think Gayab was one of their 1st films overall. But then for a major part of their career they have been more prevalent in Marathi Cinema & its only now that they seem to have shifted gears to Hindi.
For a moment i was thinking when did Gaayab had a second installment.
Hahaha. Even i was thinking the same. Btw wouldnt it be grt to see Tushar disappear from the screen in Gayab 2 if it ever gets made.
Katrina is trying to be a Madhuri here and fails(obviously) at it. Wanted more of Sanjay Dutt in the video. The marathi video isn’t great either but it has that craziness to it which i like. Especially the part from 3:00 where there is an actual ‘kombadi’ dancing on the right hand side in the foreground and Bharat Jadhav uski nazar utar raha hain and suddenly the hen gets replaced by the lady and then the expressions on Bharat jadhav’s face. Totally crazy!
Song-wise the marathi one is way way better. The tune is the same but ‘cock…cock..cock’ of the kombadi is missing actually the kombadi itself is missing which makes the song pretty dull in comparison to the marathi one. The hindi lyrics too are pretty dull in comparison. Anand Shinde’s voice is just perfect for the marathi song. I guess Sunidhi voice would have worked better than Shreya Ghosal sweet voice for this song.
The hindi version pales in comparison to the marathi version mainly due to the lyrics and since it lacks the fun quotient of the original. Unlike a Dhinka Chika which was as good as Ringa ringa. But Katrina is the saving grace and had danced well & with lots of energy.
I am from jammu, having lived in maharashtra for 12 years and having heard kombdi palali song several times, in every marati wedding. I can say having heard both versions.. Marati version KOMBDI PALALI is far more superior to listen than hindi version.
guys i think, the ones who havent heard the marathi version may like chikni chameli. so may be people residing in the northern india may like it as they wont compare to the original as many of them may nt have heard it.
I second your thoughts
After watching both the version, only one thing to say. Proud to be Indian!
I always like Kombdi Palali because it is a marathi song so i’ll always prefer marathi first. Kombdi has a special beauty which chikni chameli is not having so kombdi palali is good song.
