What was the motivation for you to make this movie?

I am a photographer and love it when I experience the decisive moment while making a picture. The decisive moment is a magical combination of intuition and creativity. In ways its almost like falling in love at first sight. I have always been fascinated with the instant-print photographers at Gateway of India (Mumbai) and I thought if my protagonist was one of them I would be able to weave a sweet story about the decisive moment.
What is it based on?
The film is a figment of my imagination. It stemmed out of a “What if…? ” situation. I asked myself what if a photographer at gateway was drawn by the sudden urge to photograph a foreigner and isn’t able to because of the crowd?
Is this your first movie?
I have made a couple of short films in the past. But I consider this to be my most ambitious one so far. I approached Adrak in a systematic manner and was able to build a fantastic crew comprising of – actors, producers, cinematographer, editor, music composer, sound designer, costume designer and assistant directors came together to make the short possible.
Who inspired you to be a filmmaker?who are your fav filmmakers?
My inspiration to make films comes from the films I watched during childhood and comic books. Some of my favorite filmmakers are – Michel Gondry, Steven Spielberg, John Hughes, Fatih Akin and Raj Kapoor.
Shahir sethhi is MFA Film Directing student at University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). Currently, he is in pre-production for his next short film to be shot  in Los Angeles and developing a few feature film screenplays.

What was the motivation for you to make this movie?

I travel regualarly from local trains. many a times when I was traveling and when I was standing in the compartment near the door a stone came from out of the train but it didnt hurt me. I observed this many a times and have seen peope getting injured from this. I also heard that some people have lost their lives in this from my relatives. So I was very motivated to make a movie on this topic which is a aspect of mumbai which people are not aware of. Thanks to MAMI I got an oportunity to participate as the theme was to show any aspect of mumbai.
What is it based on?
It is  based on stone pecking. the roadside childerens who stay in slums or on streets mostly they are child labours. these childerens to make fun and for theri self enjoyment throw stones on moviing raiway trains because of which many have got injured and some of them have also lost their lives. the movie also shows the current sitiuation in mumbai where a common man is unsecure for his life and whenever he sees a bag or suitcase lying lonely he gets little tensed coz of the recent bomb blast which has happend over the decade. finally the message given through this movie is that ” from a bomb to a stone can wave a bye to a mumbaikar”
Is this your first film?
No i have made many shortfilms and adfilms on college level and also won prizez for some of it
Who inspired you to be a filmmaker?who are your fav filmmakers?
in second year of my college when we got projects in which we were told to make shortfilms on any topic at that time i helped people from diffrent group as they were finding difficult our of 10 films from the whole class 4 films were directed by me and in that 2 films whihc i made for the other people in the class got the highest marks. this inspired me to go into filmaking.
My favourite film makers are Madhur Bhandarkar, Anurag basu, Anurag kashap,
What you intend to do with prize money if you win?
If i have money and good bank balance i would go ahead and make short films by my own.
Mihir Desai-Aakra-Man
In 2004 Mihir Desai made his first short film. When it was an official selection at an international film festival Mihir got the confidence to take up filmmaking as a career. After doing his undergrads in filmmaking from Columbia College Chicago, Mihir decided to move back to India and start a DIY film production company Auteur Mark ( http://www.auteurmark.com ). With this company, Mihir’s goal has been to create high quality content with new media and digital tools.
What was the motivation for you to make this movie?
As a fairly new filmmaker any opportunity I get to make a movie, becomes my motivation to make it well and present it innovatively. Dimensions Mumbai gave me that opportunity; and writer Rahul Desai’s script helped me experiment and be innovative with the mockumentary genre.
What is it based on?
Aakra-Man is a “make-shift” super hero film about a common man with a glorified sense of theatrics. He is hell-bent on repairing his fractured city of Mumbai, whether crime exists or not.
Is this your first movie?
I made my first film in 2004. Since then I’ve been creating online content, which includes shorts, corporate videos, music videos and commercials. Constantly creating video content is the only way I can experiment with various genres, and styles

Who inspired you to be a filmmaker?who are your fav filmmakers?

Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever set out to be like a particular filmmaker. I do have my favourites but the reason why I am a filmmaker is because of the urge to tell stories that have been developed as a result of my observations and experiences in life.

It’s very hard to pick favourite filmmakers but if I had to name a few they would be Terrance Malick, Martin Scorsese, Paul Thomas Anderson, Wes Anderson, Michel Gondry, Stanley Kubrick…and a lot more!

What you intend to do with prize money if you win?
Rahul Desai’s Aakra-Man script is a feature length script that was cut down for Dimensions Mumbai. If the film wins the prize money, Rahul and I intend to produce the feature. Also, I would like to pay my crew!
Note- Dimensions will be playing today ( 16th October ) at Cinemax Versova- Screen 1 as part of MAMI 2011.
